The Big Red Rumble Fitness Competition

The West Michigan fitness event of 2022 is back, baby!

The Big Red Rumble will be featuring team workouts and a solo athlete event as well. The top 3 teams in each division (Scaled, Intermediate, and Rx) will earn a spot on the podium and receive prize packages! 

The competitor divisions are as follows:

SCALED PAIR EVENTS

12 teams of two people (M/M and F/F)
Wondering if Scaled is for you? If you struggle to do unassisted pull-ups, we’d recommend this division.

INTERMEDIATE PAIR EVENTS

12 teams of two people (M/M and F/F)
If pull-ups are pretty standard for you and you don’t have any debilitating injuries, this is for you!

Rx PAIR EVENTS

R12 teams of two people (M/M and F/F)
Do you do the CrossFit Open WODs and most of your local box's programming Rx or Rx+? Let's get you in on this action! On the fence? We encourage you to push yourself to some new limits!

There will be 4 WODs each and they will be announced at a later date.

Registration opens June 17, and will be open until our last spot is taken. Early Bird specials are open until June 24th, 2022 or until capacity is filled- whichever happens first. Use the code EARLYBIRD2022 as long as it is valid to get discounted ticket pricing!

The following is going to be a brief overview of some rules and housekeeping. The name of the game, of course, is friendly competition. Follow the established rules, but number one is to remember to have a good time and not be a jerk. Violation of that rule will bar success in this competition.

So! Without further ado:

Professional judging will be provided and movement standards will be held to the highest degree of excellence. All judges will be educated and coached to execute the same uniformity for each competitor.

All judges will have the power to penalize teams for not following/incorrectly completing standards. If the judge issues a “NO REP,” please adhere to the call and make the necessary adjustment to meet the specified standard (read: try again). This competition is run professionally and is meant to be challenging yet fun. Verbal and/or physical abuse directed at any volunteer, athlete, spectator, or judge will not be tolerated and you will be asked to leave immediately and your team disqualified if you cause an infraction on this rule.

Simply put: don’t be a jerk! We’re all here to have a good time.

Athlete packets and information will be available prior to the event. Literature will include heat times, workout descriptions, and movement standards. Please make yourselves familiar with all the activities before the competition begins! There will be time to ask questions before the events at the athlete briefing, but be sure to come prepared. Timeliness is key to the competition running smoothly, so we do insist on promptness and punctuality.

All parking will be at our designated parking lot. A parking map will be included in the athlete packet. The map will also include the set-up to be expected for each workout, vendor locations, bathrooms, and designated areas for athletes and spectators.

Depending on the needs of WODs, we may ask you to move from the competition floor immediately after your event so that we may set up for the next heat. Spectating is always welcome from appropriately designated viewing spaces. Cheering is always encouraged. Funny chants are great.

Scores will be entered in a timely manner, so please be patient as scores will be updated as soon as possible.

If you have questions, please wait until all event details have been released. We will work hard to have all questions answered prior to the day of the event!

*By registering for this event, you are giving CrossFit Holland permission to capture media footage (photo/video) that we can use for promotional use in the future. The media will be made available to all participates to use however they see fit.*

Let’s get ready to RUMBLE! 

WOD 1: DT F THIS

What unholy horror is this?

This first workout is a trifecta of strength, stamina, and strategy! The rules are simple: You and your partner have seven shared minutes to each do a complex of 12 deadlifts, 9 hang cleans, and 6 shoulder-to-overheads as heavy as possible without dropping or re-gripping the bar. Your score is your combined highest weight for a completed complex. 

That's it. 

Can you add weight as you go? How many times can you attempt it? 

Yes, and you can attempt as many times as you think you can! But be warned: that clock is ticking, one partner can attempt at a time, and you may find yourself losing your grip.

UPDATE: WOD 2 is now up! 

WOD 2: SECOND BREAKFAST

It’s a 12 minute AMRAP consisting of 9 wall balls, 6 burpee-to-targets, and 3 snatches. Partner A does a round, then immediately upon completion Partner B does a round, so on and so forth until you die or the time runs out. Whatever happens first. 

Scaled athletes will do (M/W) 14/10 pound wall balls, 10/9 foot targets, and 95/65 pound snatch. 

Intermediate athletes are doing 20/14 pound wall balls, 10/9 foot targets, and 115/85 pound snatch. 

RX athletes are hitting 20/14 pound wall balls, 10 foot targets each, and 135/95 pound snatches. 

Your score is how many reps you and partner have accrued by the end of 12 minutes!

UPDATE: WOD 3 is now here!

WOD 3: CAPTAIN COFF'S REVENGE!


Just like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this comes in phases. 


All the phases fall into a 17 minute time cap

Phase I is a doozy, with both partners working at the same time. Between the two of you, you have to chip away at 100 calories on the Ski Erg and 100 single arm dumbbell Devil’s press. You can switch at any time as you so choose to knock it out. 

If you finish one before the other, then you’re switching between resting and finishing what remains. 

Phase II is a sprint to the next phase, with the same rules applying, but working away at 100 calories on the rower and 100 box overs

Phase III, if time permits, is an AMRAP of Clean and Jerks until the time runs out, one partner working at a time. 

RX will use 55/35 pound dumbbells, 24/20 inch boxes, and 135/95 pound barbells. 

Intermediate will use 45/30 pound dumbbells, 24/20 inch boxes, and 115/85 pound barbells.

Scaled will use 35/25 pound dumbbells, 24/20 inch boxes (may step up), and 95/65 pound barbells.

UPDATE: THE FINAL WOD



There's no better way to finish The Big Red Rumble than leaving it all on the gym floor! Here's how it works:

RX

There are two rounds (one per partner) of 3 minutes each.

Partner A will begin with 3 minutes on the clock to complete 18 thrusters at 95/65 pounds followed by 18 chest-to-bar pull-ups, immediately followed by 15 thrusters and C2B pull-ups, following the pattern of 18-15-12-9-6-3 or until time runs out. 

If the complex is finished before the 3 minute time, Partner A must AMRAP bar muscle-ups until the timer runs out. 

Partner B will begin immediately upon Partner A's timer running out, beginning their own 3 minute complex. The pattern is the same, but will be doing thrusters at 115/85 pounds and regular chin-over-bar pull-ups

If done before the timer has elapsed, will also AMRAP bar muscle-ups until timer runs out. 

INTERMEDIATE

The weights will be the same for Intermediate as for RX, but will do a pattern of 15-12-9-6-3 instead. 
The rules remain the same, but instead of doing an AMRAP for bar MU, you will do max thrusters with any remaining time

SCALED

The pattern for Intermediate will be the same for Scaled, doing thrusters and pull-up variations in intervals of 15-12-9-6-3.

For Partner A, scaled weights for thrusters will be 65/45 pounds,and will be doing ring rows

For Partner B, scaled weights for thrusters will be 85/55 pounds, and will be doing jumping chest-to-bar pull-ups

Any remaining time in each round will result in an AMRAP of thrusters!
