Description of Competition & Fundraiser
In the military the smallest unit is the fire team – a 4 person unit. On occasion, such as with a sniper pair or swim pair, special forces units will even deploy as a pair. But in either case, always operating as part of a greater effort. FTX stands for Final Training eXercise, which in the military are field tests to see if a unit is ready for deployment or Mission Ready. In that spirit, FTX CrossFit is holding its 3rd Annual FireTeam Competition and Fundraiser on Saturday, July 7th for 2 person pairs and 4 person FireTeams. Come together as a community for a greater cause to help soldiers and their families that have suffered injuries or other hardship serving our country, and see if you’re Mission Ready as a pair or with your 4 person FireTeam. Part of the proceeds will go the SEAL Legacy Foundation.
Format of Competition
You can compete as a Pair or a FireTeam.
Pair - We will have 2 divisions for pairs - 1) Men's (MM) and 2) Women's (FF)
FireTeam - This is a single division competition! Each Fire Team will consist of 2 males and 2 females (MMFF)
Each WOD will have different exercises that can be divided, assigned or done in different ways so as to be doable by anyone. That is why we don't have various divisions split by skill level, i.e. Rx, Intermediate, Beginner, etc. The CrossFit community is awesome and we wanted an event that reflects this and is inclusive yet allows plenty of competition. Yes, there will be winners, but everyone will have a blast competing.
This competition is designed so that everyone should be able to find a partner or team and be able to compete. Everyone has strengths and weakness. In this competition pairs and teams will be able to effectively compete regardless of skill level or experience! Just do it and have fun!
There will be 3 main WODs on the day of the competition. There will also be 4 different floater WODs worth the equivalent of 2 main WODs. The floaters will be short tests that should take about 2 minutes each. Each Pair and Fire Team will assign 2 floaters to each of its athletes. See below for full descriptions of the WODs & Floaters.
Judges - All are L1 Certified! We pay judges + lunch + shirt on day of competition. Judges will have a Friday night briefing from 6:30pm - 7:30pm, which includes dinner. This results in a well-run and professionally managed event!Volunteers - Lunch + shirt

FireTeam WOD #1 / Pairs WOD #2 - "Get out!"
12 min. AMRAP
FireTeams will deadlift a palette pre-loaded with 225 lbs. After each set of deadlifts, teams will send off 2 runners to run 200m while the other 2 team members add two 25 lbs. bags to the load. Runners must alternate.
Pairs will deadlift a bar initially loaded with 135/95 lbs. After each set of deadlifts, pairs will send off 1 athlete to run 200m while the other athlete adds 30/20 lbs. to the bar. The athletes must alternate running. Deadlifts can be performed by the athletes alternating lifting or jointly lifting as desired.
Score is # of reps completed. Each deadlift = 1 rep / Each full 40m = 1 rep (For FireTeams both athletes have to pass distance for reps purposes). 15 reps per round completed.
FireTeam WOD #2 / Pairs WOD #1 - "Mortar"12 min. AMRAP Chipper
Row - Pairs will share one rower. Each FireTeam will have 2 rowers. Distance is cumulative between all athletes and rowers. Get the required distance any which way. All athletes move on only once the total distance is achieved.
Alt. Box Jumps - Pairs and teams will choose a box jump height. Height will determine the number of reps required. Pairs will select 1 box. Teams will select 2 boxes each consisting of a different height.
30" = 28 reps / 24" = 40 reps / 20" = 50 reps / 18" = 60 reps / 12" = 90 repsThere will be two athletes to a box alternating doing box jumps. Reps is total reps to be completed by the two athletes on a particular box. For FireTeams if one set of athletes completes the box jumps, then they can move on to the Wall Balls without having to wait. Once you start on a particular box height, you may switch to a different box height but you'll have to start over on the # of reps required.
Wall Balls - Pairs have to throw 600 total lbs. per Wall Ball. Fire Teams have to throw 1,200 lbs. total per Wall Ball. Pairs and FireTeams will select 2 Wall Balls. Each Wall Ball must be a different weight. FireTeams and pairs can alternate athletes and Wall Balls as desired. Regardless of ball weight, the height to be thrown is 10' for men and 9' for women. Reps are counted on a per ball basis versus a per athlete basis. All athletes move on only once the total lbs. for both Wall Balls is completed.
1,200 total lbs. = 30#s = 40 reps / 20#s = 60 reps / 14# = 86 reps / 10# = 120 reps600 total lbs. = 30#s = 20 reps / 20#s = 30 reps / 14# = 43 reps / 10# = 60 reps
FireTeam and Pairs WOD #3 - "Running and gunning!"
8 Min. AMRAP
Over-the-Bag Burpees are synchronized by all members of a team or pair.
Bags weigh approximately 25 lbs each. Each person can carry 1-2 bags at a time and they must be carried on the shoulder(s). Pairs and teams can help each other getting the bags on the shoulders.
Note: There will be a slight surprise twist to this WOD that we will announce on the day of competition.
Each athlete will have to perform 2 floaters. On FireTeams this means each floater gets done twice. With Pairs this means each floater gets done once. (The scores of Floaters 1 & 2 will be combined into one score, and the scores of Floaters 3 & 4 will be combined into another score. This will result in the 4 Floaters being the equivalent of 2 main WODs.)
Floater #1 - Max # of ring muscle-ups, C2Bs, pull-ups or ring rows without coming off. Each movement has a different # of pts. per rep. Score is total # of points. Athletes choose which movement they want to do. No switching movements once started. Value per rep is:
Muscle-ups = 12 pts. / C2Bs = 4 pts. / Pull-ups = 2 pt. / Ring rows = 1 pt. (Arms perpendicular under rings and feet on a box so that body is parallel to the floor in the bottom/hang starting position.)
Floater #2 - Max # of Strict HSPUs, kipping HSPUs or HR Push-ups in 2 minutes. Each movement has a different # of pts. per rep. Score is total # of points. Athletes choose which movement they want to do. No switching movements once started. Value per rep is:
Strict HSPUs = 12 pts / Kipping HSPUs = 6 pts / HR Push-ups = 2 ptsHSPUs standard is the same as this year's CrossFit Open, except we will subtract 1/2" from that. If you choose to do kipping HSPUs and end up doing a strict one, that is fine but it will still only count 6 pts.
Floater #3 - Max. total lbs. moved through unbroken Bear Complex cycles in 2 minutes. 1 cycle =
The clean and ft. squat can be combined with a squat clean. Ft squat and S2O can be combined as a thruster, and the back squat can also transition to S2O any which way. Unbroken means that the bar can only touch and go during the clean portion. The athlete is allowed to only "rest" with the bar in the front rack position or the back rack position. At all other times the bar must be moving.
Score = lbs. x # of full cycles / 10
Floater #4 - Max. total lbs. bench pressed in 2 minutes. Athletes can re-rack weight and rest as needed. Top of the movement is full lockout and bottom of the movement is touching bar to middle of the chest. Back may not arch excessively at any time.
Score is reps x wt. / 10.
